Influenced by the surroundings

Add to favorites
Feng Shui – for some, esoteric knowledge; for others, a light-hearted game of interior design. Regardless of one’s belief in the magical power of yin and yang, it is worth drawing inspiration from the art of creating an orderly, harmonious space.

There are so many principles that Feng Shui enthusiasts follow that it is difficult to remember them all. This is hardly surprising, given that knowledge of the influence of the environment on human well-being dates back some 5,000 years. To start with, we have selected a few interesting tips that will help bring a little harmony to our surroundings.

Regular shapes
According to Feng Shui experts, the ideal shape is a rectangle, and so the surroundings of the house should resemble this. If the plot plan has a gap, it is worth placing a lamppost or a tree in the missing spot.

Gentle contours
The most favourably situated plots are on the southern slopes of undulating hills. Such gentle contours promote the flow of positive Chi energy, creating a sense of peace and harmony.

Pathways
The driveway and other routes should follow a curved path and, above all, be well lit, which will enhance the flow of beneficial energy.

The house at the centre
Equally important is the positioning of the house within its surroundings. It should be situated almost in the centre, slightly closer to the front of the plot.

Strong rear
area It is worth screening off the space at the back of the house from the neighbourhood, e.g. with a slight rise, a row of trees, a hedge or flowering shrubs, which will give us a sense of security.

A place to relax
It is a good idea to locate a terrace or barbecue area on the right-hand side of the property, as this allows you to think outside the box and encourages greater creativity.

Practical area On the left-hand side of the property, avoid tall trees and large rockeries. This side is an excellent spot for a vegetable patch and a compost bin.

Open spaces
The area in front of the house should provide residents with plenty of freedom. Therefore, instead of tall trees, it is best to plan a lawn here or plant low-growing plants.
