All you need to do is design it in a Mediterranean style, where the use of natural materials – or those that resemble them – is very important. It is also important to remember that water in this climate zone is a luxury, especially in summer, which is why large areas of lawn are avoided in garden design in favour of hard surfaces. These are most often made of sandstone, marble or granite. Nevertheless, due to their high cost, it is worth considering a surface that resembles them in appearance and aesthetics.
Those made from concrete pavers Polbruk Petra
are ideal for this purpose. When creating this design, the designers were inspired by the Rock City in Jordan.Petra
features four irregular shapes allowing for considerable freedom in layout. Three of them are so-called edging blocks, which are laid along the edge of a path or square. In addition, there is one solid shape, which is used to fill the space between the edges of the path. This version of the paver can also be successfully laid using the step-by-step system. This involves laying the elements individually, at equal intervals with a slight offset, so that they form a sort of footpath leading to a secluded mini-fountain or pond, so popular in Mediterranean gardens.
Polbruk
Petra
has a smooth texture. The first of these comes in three colour variants:alpen
(ash-grey),onyx
(light brown) andsahara
(sandstone). All these colours will blend beautifully with the lush green plants of a Mediterranean garden. As well as wonderfully fragrant herbs – such as rosemary, lavender or sage – it is worth considering trees and shrubs that thrive in our climate, such as rhododendron, boxwood, cherry laurel or London plane. It is worth planting climbing plants – such as Virginia creeper or grapevine – which will provide shade from the scorching sun in summer.
Polbruk
Petra
is a highly versatile paving material. Due to its thickness of 8 cm, it can be successfully used not only on pedestrian walkways and squares, but also on driveways and roads used by vehicles weighing over 3.5 tonnes.
