Furthermore, by filling them with soil and sowing grass, a unique combination of concrete paving and lawn is created. In many cases, this blends perfectly with the surrounding natural environment.
Products in this group are primarily intended for surfaces for pedestrian and passenger vehicle traffic, for example: squares, car parks, access roads to properties, and the landscaping of green areas in parks and housing estates. Another important function (mainly of the slabs) is the reinforcement of slopes, ditches, abutments, etc. We encourage you to consider the use of products from this group wherever this is in line with the stated purpose and where it is not necessary for the surface being constructed to be relatively impermeable.

Sub-base
The principles for constructing the sub-base for products in this group do not differ significantly from those applicable to ‘classic’ pavers. The sub-base for openwork products must be constructed in accordance with the design, which should take into account geotechnical conditions, operational conditions and the method of drainage. In this case, it is essential that the sub-base is as permeable to water as possible. This can be achieved by using natural crushed aggregates and appropriately coarse fractions for the bottom layer. The sub-base must be constructed from durable material that ensures adequate load-bearing capacity after compaction.
Bedding
To facilitate the laying of openwork products, it is necessary to use what is known as a ‘bedding layer’. Here too, to ensure permeability, natural materials should be used: washed sand 0–2 mm or crushed aggregates 0–5 mm. Filling joints and holes in pavers and slabs
Two solutions are proposed in this regard:
a. filling the empty spaces with soil and sowing grass, which enhances the appearance of the surface and increases the amount of greenery in the surroundings
b. filling the spaces with gravel or crushed aggregates – by using a variety of aggregates of different sizes and even colours, we create additional opportunities to design the appearance of the surface being created.
Both solutions will allow for good drainage of rainwater into the ground.
