Consistency, simple patterns and balanced proportions are setting a new direction in architecture. A new generation of designers, who value minimalism and simplicity, are encouraging the achievement of a balance between the geometry of the property and the structure of the building. As a result, the epitome of perfection today is the right combination of all elements: paving materials, striking plants and accessories in keeping with modern design aesthetics.
Rectangles and squares
A shift towards geometry and simple forms allows the home’s outdoor space to be perfectly complemented. This is particularly true if the house is in a modernist style, with its uncomplicated form enhanced by a wooden façade or panoramic glazing. - A modern garden is an excellent way to arrange the space in a modernist setting. It blends perfectly with minimalist compositions and concepts straight from the big cities. However, for the whole to be stylish and unpretentious, it must be an integral part of the house’s design. A garden in this style is treated as the property’s showpiece, another room, and should be a continuation of its architecture – explains Wojciech Średniawa from Polbruk.
Taming the form
The design of a modern garden is based on compositional minimalism. This means that its layout is dominated by simple lines, geometric forms and smooth surfaces, which connect a well-tended lawn with a driveway or terrace made of large slabs, or, for example, a swimming pool with a water surface level with the ground. - The surroundings of a modern home are reduced solely to essential elements. Consequently, they usually lack gazebos, fire pits or compost bins, which until now have been an integral part of many gardens; this makes the careful selection of plants, paving materials and furniture all the more important. These simply need to be distinctive and of the highest quality
,” adds Wojciech Średniawa.
A well-thought-out, balanced composition allows you to make full use of the space and define functional zones. Although the character of a modern garden is closer to a formal style than a rustic one, it can successfully be both comfortable and functional. To combine these two elements, it is worth using the services of an experienced designer who is well acquainted with the specific features of the proposed products.
Opportunities within reach
Not everything that is perfect has to be difficult to achieve. A unique space can be created by using large, monochromatic concrete slabs laid alongside tiered grasses. - Grey slabs with a smooth surface and balanced lines, such as Polbruk Multicomplex or Polbruk Magna, are the epitome of modernity. They contrast with buildings featuring dark façades and also complement structures with white façades perfectly, thereby emphasising the prestige and elegance of the home, whilst lending the entire design a luxurious, timeless character. Furthermore, surfaces made from such slabs are characterised by the durability typical of concrete and high load-bearing capacity

.
A modern design featuring large-format concrete slabs is best complemented by a lawn and simple, attractive cold-hardy grasses, as well as small architectural features. For example, a retaining wall or stair treads can be used to create modern seating. A sophisticated concept will be successfully complemented by creatively designed details, such as a garden bench combined with a planter. The skilful use of lighting and furniture in intense, bright colours will prove to be an inspiring way to break up the monochromatic nature of the elements.
The use of large concrete slabs, striking ornamental grasses and original accessories serving a specific purpose – this, in a nutshell, is the recipe for an attractive garden in a modern style.
