Depending on the material used for the surface, there are several ways to protect it from external factors such as snow or frost. In the case of pavers, maintenance is best started with the basic yet most important steps: thorough sweeping and washing. Mud is one of the most common types of dirt in winter and should be removed regularly – ideally using a pressure washer with a suitable attachment. It is also worth protecting the cleaned surface with a sealant, such as Efekt by Polbruk. Surfaces treated with Efekt become weather-resistant, meaning they will protect our outdoor space all year round, not just in winter – says Wojciech Średniawa, chief designer at Polbruk.
What else should you bear in mind when undertaking terrace maintenance work?
When chipping away at a layer of ice in winter and clearing snow from the surface, it is worth bearing in mind that working too vigorously
and intensively can lead to damage to the top layer. We can prevent this by using tools with rubber tips, ensuring that the outdoor space remains attractive for many years, whilst also serving as a decorative feature for our home. Another option is to use specialist snow-melting products, which prevent the formation of slush that is difficult to clear. An important feature of such products is that they do not cause the pavers to discolour or individual stones to crack.
The above measures will ensure the terrace surface is properly maintained, increase safety during winter use, and help preserve its attractive appearance for several years.
