Pavers in public spaces

Add to favorites
It is used to pave squares, pedestrian areas and paths. It is durable, functional and offers designers plenty of scope – pavers are one of the most versatile building materials used in the design of public spaces – though not always appreciated. Yet right under our feet, we can come across some real gems!

Piotrkowska Street in Łódź, the Entertainment Village in Żory, the pedestrian zone around the Kraków Arena stadium – these are places where the surface may pleasantly surprise us. Why?

A stretch of street all to yourself
Anyone who has visited Łódź even once will surely have remembered three things from their trip: Miś Uszatek, Łódź’s Manufaktura and – the famous – Piotrkowska Street, stretching for 4.2 km. Walking along Pietryna, as the locals often call the street, you have to be very careful, because as you tread on the cobbled surface, you might accidentally trip over… someone’s name! A 340-metre stretch of Piotrkowska Street was put up for sale a few years ago so that residents could buy a section of the street for themselves. Today, the promenade features around 16,000 plaques bearing the first and last names of ordinary residents of Łódź, constituting an unprecedented monument – one of the longest in the world. Grey ‘Polbruk ’ Rectangle pavers were used in its construction, the simplest yet most versatile option available.

A surface straight out of the Wild West
Anyone who cannot resist watching American cinema classics such as ‘High Noon’ or ‘The Magnificent Seven’ yet again will surely know that in southern Poland, on the route between Katowice and Wisła, a special town has been created for fans of the cowboy lifestyle. The atmosphere of this theme park is certainly shaped by breathtaking re-enactments of bank robberies and gunfights, but the spirit of the Wild West would not be captured without the meticulously recreated buildings, decorations and special paving.
When visiting this town in Żory, it is impossible to miss the brown-and-sand tiles, which, with their irregular shape, sandy hues and distinctive texture, reflect the atmosphere of the Wild West. The coherence of the design is ensured by the irregular paving, constructed using Polbruk Petra pavers – which resemble natural stone, setting the manufacturer apart from the competition.

A touch of colour in an urban design
Leaving behind the smoke from the guns and the music coming from the jukebox, we move on – to Kraków, where the shouts of gunmen give way to the cheers of fans preparing for a match. Here, the paving made from a completely different type of concrete paver is worth noting – a modernist design, tailored to the structure of the Kraków Arena stadium. Rectangular, with a refined, washed texture, the Polbruk Urbanika pavers harmonise here with the steel structure. A touch of playfulness is added to the design by pavers from the Styl range – Polbruk Carmino in graphite and indiana (yellow, red and black). The Carmino pavers, laid right next to the building and shimmering with a thousand colours, bring it to life, making the area around the stadium welcoming and pleasing to the eye.
