A garden straight out of a romance novel

Add to favorites
Those who love spending their free time surrounded by nature will certainly understand perfectly how even a small garden at home can become an extraordinary place. All the more so because every green corner can hold a truly unique story. How can you make it exceptionally romantic?

Romantic-style gardens became popular in 19th-century England. Since then, they have continually won the hearts of lovers of idyllic, somewhat nostalgic landscapes. And although one of the main tenets of garden romanticism is its varied, individual character, when realising your dream design, it is worth paying attention to a few key aspects.

Amidst colours, shapes and scents
In a romantic garden, the vegetation has a decisive influence on the atmosphere of the place, often serving a demarcating function – helping to create a quiet, secluded spot. Ivy or other climbing plants, as well as numerous shrubs such as lilacs, jasmines, azaleas or rhododendrons, will help to isolate the space. Topiary plants such as boxwood or yew will also add an interesting touch. The focal point of the design should be the lawn – ideally with a natural, irregular edge, as asymmetry is one of the main features of natural spaces. Of course, no romantic garden would be complete without roses. It is worth using climbing varieties and species with varying flowering periods, which will allow you to enjoy their beauty from early spring to late autumn. It is best to plant all the plants in tiers – from the tallest at the back to the shortest at the front – and in a relaxed manner, placing them, for example, on small slopes. It is worth complementing the natural greenery with pastel colours, which emphasise the cosy, somewhat lyrical atmosphere of the surroundings. Its unique, idyllic atmosphere is also accentuated by the presence of aromatic herbs and other useful plants: vines, raspberries, blackberries or strawberries.

A great love for garden features
Characteristic accessories and garden features are an essential component of a romantic garden. That is why carefully selected materials should be used to finish paths, walkways or terraces. A good example here is the Polbruk Petra paver, which allows you to create unique and elegant surfaces in the form of intricate patterns made from irregular slabs. A moody, slightly nostalgic atmosphere in the garden can be achieved with the Polbruk Country paver. Its particular charm stems from the combination of an aged texture with original colour blends. This paver is also ideal for building small walls and steps, adding charm to garden spaces and helping to create secluded corners, for example for a garden bench.
An intimate atmosphere can also be created using pergolas and trellises covered in climbing plants. In turn, the presence of water in the form of a pond, a small fountain or even a portable water feature will have a soothing effect on the surroundings. A decorative vase, a sculpture or a birdbath will look perfect in their vicinity. Wrought-iron garden furniture, especially when painted white, will also add a stylish touch. Remember that it is also thanks to such small but significant details that we can create spaces where every moment spent there will be a wonderful, romantic adventure.
