Rectangles and squares
Large-format concrete slabs are ideal for finishing the surfaces of squares, city arcades and pedestrianised areas, but not only. They are a distinctive finishing element for driveways and paths around homes in modernist and minimalist styles. – Large-format modern slabs, which were previously used in the courtyards of office buildings and around modern residential complexes, are increasingly being used by developers and private property owners. Products such as the Magna, Urbanika or Multicomplex slabs from Polbruk enable a variety of design concepts, but they harmonise best with buildings featuring simple, geometric forms, on properties with regular, perpendicular lines. Interestingly, they also work very well in the surroundings of so-called ‘cube’ houses, which are now being given a new lease of life following modernisation,” explains Wojciech Średniawa, a designer at Polbruk.
Versatile application
Elements in 25x30 cm, 60x40 cm or 50x75 cm formats, which are skilfully selected and laid out over large areas, can be combined with features such as gravel and lawns. Placed in close proximity, they help avoid the ‘concrete jungle’ effect, allowing us to achieve an original, visually appealing result. Alternatively, one can create flowerbeds and plantings in large, geometric planters, which will vary the levels, thereby adding variety to the entire space. In smaller areas, it is recommended to lay the slabs side by side in a uniform pattern, which will also serve as a decorative feature for the property.
Example arrangements
Polbruk Magna
, measuring 50x75 cm and 10 cm thick in the colournerino
, impresses with its smooth texture and shades of mottled greys. It perfectly complements the grounds of a modern detached house with clean lines. As a result, the paving harmonises with the entire design in terms of both colour and shape.
The same applies to the ‘Multicomplex’ slabs (a new addition to the range at Polbruk), which are available in sizes of 20x40 cm, 40x40 cm, 60x40 cm and a thickness of 6 cm. With these, we can create a variety of spatial solutions: unique terrace designs, expansive driveways, or garden paths and courtyards. The pavers are available in three different colours: latte, nerino and mokka.
Polbruk, on the other hand, Urbanika, which is available in two finishes (smooth, washed), ten colours and four sizes (15x30 cm, 20x30 cm, 25x30 cm, 20x60 cm; 8 cm thick), creates an attractive setting for the buildings in the Rainbow Estate in Kraków (shown here in the washed texture). Recently, Polbruk Urbanika has also enhanced the grounds of the State Archives in Rzeszów and the Musical Theatre in Lublin, which only confirms the versatility of this product.
Furthermore, the considerable thickness of these slabs and their availability in a wide range of colours and textures allows for the creation of attractive designs, both aesthetically and technically, resulting in robust surfaces capable of withstanding heavy loads. Elements with a smooth texture also ensure that the surface is easy to keep clean.
