The elite FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Warmia Mazury Grand Slam Olsztyn 2016 has gone down in history. The women’s competition, which lasted several days, was won by the pair Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst (GER). Among the men, the duo of Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins (LAT) proved to be the best!

The competing volleyball players demonstrated the highest level of competition, and the pairs – particularly those playing for a place in the final – produced many outstanding plays. Individual saves by the players, long tie-breaks and unpredictable match outcomes guaranteed spectacular sporting entertainment – over the six days of the competition, thousands of fans visited the city beach in Olsztyn. Unfortunately, the Poles did not win any medals this time.

Saturday’s Grand Slam women’s volleyball final ended in victory for the Ludwig/Walkenhorst pair. The German pair defeated the Brazilian duo Larissa/Talita 2-0 in the final. The men’s final, meanwhile, was won by the Latvians (Samoilovs/Smedins J), who beat the Brazilians – Alison and Bruno Schmidt – 2-0.

The Polish pairs performed below expectations this year. Three men’s duos finished in 9th place, whilst the highest-ranked women’s pair came in 17th.

To the delight of the fans, the organisers provided entertainment outside the sporting arena – during the event, spectators could enjoy performances by the band Akcent and the Łowcy.B cabaret.

The volleyball matches took place at the “Ukiel” Recreation and Sports Centre in Olsztyn, on the shores of Lake Krzywe.

We are delighted to have played our part in organising such an exciting event.
