“Builder for the Young Architect” is a nationwide educational programme initiated by the trade monthly Builder, aimed at Polish students of architecture and construction faculties, as well as budding architects and engineers. Its aim is to educate, promote and support the development of professional and practical knowledge, skills and competences among young and talented aspiring architects.

It aims to promote modern materials and technological solutions, as well as to present and highlight their importance in the design process of buildings and the spaces surrounding them. The programme involved market-leading construction companies and manufacturers of modern materials and technologies – the Patrons of Polish Architecture. Polbruk S.A. was one of them, acting as a strategic partner of the programme.

The Competition Jury, which assessed the entries, comprised not only the publisher but also distinguished Polish architects and Patrons of Polish Architecture. Among the jurors was Piotr Gmyrek, Member of the Management Board and Commercial Director of Polbruk S.A.

In the sixth edition of the competition, three tasks awaited the young architects: a joint architectural and engineering task entitled “The River That Connects”, and architectural tasks: “The Young Architect’s Manifesto” and “Architectural Detail”. This year, the number of participants across all editions of the Builder for the Future programme exceeded 10,000. In the 2018–2019 edition, over 120 entries were submitted to the competition, the majority of which utilised products from Polbruk.

The culmination of the sixth edition of the programme was the Builder for the Future Gala, organised by “Builder” magazine. During the ceremony, which took place on 30 May 2019, the winners of the Young Architects’ Competition and the Young Civil Engineers’ Competition were announced.

The winning team of this year’s edition consists of Michalina Dębska (Faculty of Architecture, Wrocław University of Technology), Maria Kęsy (Faculty of Architecture, Wrocław University of Technology), Jakub Biernacki (Faculty of Architecture, Wrocław University of Technology), Mateusz Psiuk (Faculty of Civil and Water Engineering, Wrocław University of Technology), and Aleksandra Dziadosz (Faculty of Civil and Water Engineering, Wrocław University of Technology). The authors of the winning and commended projects, which covered the concept of developing the waterfront areas on both sides of the river, most frequently recommended the use of pavers Polbruk Metrik and Polbruk Exa .

As part of the programme, in addition to the competition, numerous educational events took place, including workshops, lectures and discussion panels. The initiative was attended by distinguished Polish architects and civil engineers, who shared their knowledge, experience and passion with young aspiring architects.
