The main task for competition entrants was to prepare a development concept for one of the two locations in Ciechocinek proposed by the organisers. The design should propose changes that would transform the space into a recreational and leisure area frequently visited by local residents. For this reason, the design had to incorporate ideas for new paving, including the use of paver patterns, edging, street furniture from Polbruk, lighting, green spaces, water features and children’s play areas. The best result, whilst equally achieving the set objectives, was achieved by teams of students from technical universities. Consequently, the following are awarded:
1st place – entry no. 939295, a team of three students from Poznań University of Technology.
2nd place – entry no. 770125, a student from Gdańsk University of Technology,
3rd place – entry no. 167295, a team of three students from the Krakow University of Technology.
The theme of the competition entries is the redevelopment of two locations: Tężniowa Street (the section from Gdański Square to Poprzeczna Street – the so-called ‘Promenade by the Graduation Towers’) and the area at the junction of Armii Krajowej, 3 Maja, Kościuszki and Zdrojowa Streets. In their concepts, the award-winning authors proposed, amongst other things: the creation of modern, multifunctional street furniture that makes unconventional use of materials supplied by Polbruk, a concrete gateway integrated into a series of fountains and energy-efficient lamps that also allow for evening strolls, as well as seating arranged in an amphitheatre layout. The proposed solutions include the demarcation of functional zones, taking into account circulation routes as well as recreational and representative spaces. The aim of the concept is to improve quality and create spaces for active leisure and recreation that will attract both residents and tourists.
The winners will be honoured and the prizes awarded during a gala ceremony on 8 July in Ciechocinek. You are cordially invited!
The competition is organised by Polbruk and the Municipality of Ciechocinek, and sponsored by “Builder” magazine and “Procad”.
